Korelii smiled. "I appreciate the welcome..." as she gently hugged her eldest daughter, who shared many of her looks. "Everyone, take a seat and I will explain what happened... and how it happened..."
Her family did as she had requested, Korelii gently sat down on her husband's lap, he gently slipped an arm around her waist to support her, partly because he wasn't sure if he was dreaming or not. "Thanks to a group of personnel obtaining a large consignment of medical information on the Halanan species, a source that even I'm not supposed to know about... They were able to make two medical remedies, one for the average... and one for me..."
"Wait..." Bernadette MacRae asked. She was the second pregnancy and the third child born. "What do you mean... One for you?" the teenager regarded her mother with a curious look.
"I am not the average Halanan... I am a Halanan augment... This was why the Torilla Yamaguchi cure did not work on me... Even though she and I... are full siblings..." she sighed softly. "I had no idea that Vanguard or its medical personnel were working on this cure or that they needed a test victim, until this morning..."
Aiden MacRae paused, he was the fourth child and the third pregnancy. "Mom... I do not mean to speak poorly of anyone... But when we saw you this morning, you were..." he paused a moment. "Well... Umm... On the brink of death..." he tried not to trip over his own statement as he was waiting for his mother to lose her temper with what he had said.
"I know." Korelii her son answered quietly. "Suffice to say. My body was in a state of open revolt, all of my cells had no idea of what was going on... In short, I had the same chromosomal issues as all Halanan's do but we augment's got them worse than everyone else... and I suspect... That I will be the only augment who survived..." she paused a moment. "What's worse is that I passed my garbage on to all of you. That's why you guys spent part of this afternoon in sickbay..."
"Yeah. I feel better now mom..." Joseph MacRae commented, he was the sixth child and fifth pregnancy. "I had these almost constant headaches for weeks now... Now I can sit back and not feel surges of pain... I thought it was simply stress..."
"I know son," Korelii answered softly. "All your issues came from me... My greatest regret was... That I was going to end up dying from this...
and that I was going to doom all of you to follow in my footsteps..."
"What's your health like now?" Daniel MacRae asked of his spouse, who was sitting on his lap.
"Stable... But the Doctor wants me for daily checkups for the next couple of weeks... He says I am to take it easy... Nothing overly strenuous or stressful."
"Makes sense..." Sacagawea MacRae answered, she was the eldest child, first pregnancy. "I mean you've just been through an incredible ordeal and you will want time to sit back and reflect upon it... You nearly went blind, you lost the ability to walk... and a few other things..." she then let out a long sigh softly.
"I do need time to reflect upon it... I also need a lot of rest, my body is presently in a state of confused at present..." Korelii explained to her six children who were all regarding her with curious and happy looks. "So... We will celebrate my rising from the dead tomorrow night... alright?" she added.
"Sure mom... I don't think we were expecting anything other than the Doctor calling us about your passing..." Elias MacRae commented. He was the fifth child, her fourth pregnancy and as a result, he was the second youngest.
Korelii nodded her head. "I wasn't expecting anything other than my passing... and the knowledge that I had cursed all of you with bad genes..."
Kameron regarded his mother. "But we got it all resolved... Dad asked us all to come with him to sickbay, we all got poked and prodded by some very nice medics... That Bolian nurse was a real looker..." he added with a rather wide smile, everyone present knew where his mind had just gone. Bernadette MacRae giggled softly. "Well, this just went sideways."
Sacagawea MacRae regarded her twin in silence as Korelii regarded her son. "Kam, you still with us?" she asked gently. "You are old enough... Why don't you go and see if she is available.?"
"Okay... I will." Kameron then got up, tugged on his sneakers, and walked out the door without a backward glance. Sacagawea regarded the space where her twin had just been standing. "Mom, did you just give Kam permission to go bed the Bolian...?"
"I doubt Nurse Divaan will permit it... But then, Kam is young and determined to bed her..." Korelii answered with a gentle smile. "Anyway. I need to go and get some sleep... Why don't you guys give us a few hours... I'm sure that there is something on or off the ship you could be doing..." Korelii rose to her feet as she gently hugged each of her children one at a time. "I think I'll feel better after I have a shower and then get a few hours sleep... At least I will be able to do things under my own power now."
Her children all accepted what their mother was telling them and all of them departed. Daniel MacRae regarded his spouse in silence for a moment. "Do you want to sleep alone or do you want company?"
Korelii gently smiled. "I would greatly prefer company... You've been my caregiver since things got out of hand all those months ago." she commented. "I sense you have been frustrated and neglected." she commented. "Come on, I need a shower... and so do you."
Daniel smiled as he gently took his wife's hands in his own. "I never thought I'd get to do this again." and with that, he gently drew her into his arms before he kissed her on the lips, a kiss that she returned. "Come on, the shower awaits... and you have been neglected. I'll let you have your way with me." Korelii grinned at her husband.
