| Personal History | Rachael Falannar was born in 2359 on the colony world of Ballast. This was a colder world then the average that the Federations settled so she grew up in a winters paradise. Falanner and her siblings lived a happy life but Rachael was drawn at an early age to the arts of the Engineer, she found that she had skills in repairing other peoples broken things as she was given poetic license by her parents who encouraged her to be the best she could be, so they obtained junk for her to repair and fix, most of the time she was able to work miracles and when she didn't have the parts she needed, she found ways to make do with the heaps of scrap that she had around. As Falanner grew up, she took an almost perverse delight in dismantling an old shuttlecraft her parents had obtained for her which she spent six months rebuilding into a cargo hauler. Falanner's father was her co-pilot for her first flight, hauling some junk she couldn't use to the scrapheap to be recycled. When Falanner came of age, she went off to the academy where she found the course workload to be fascinating and she took to it with gusto and passion. Most began to regard her as the next Montgomery Scott or the next Geordi La Forge. This would set high expectations for her military career and she would meet them all. Falanner also met a woman named Hae Min Lee while she was working out one evening in the gym, the two women hit it off almost right away. Falanner quickly realized that she preferred the company of women over that of men and so the two entered into a rather passionate relationship which quickly got serious. The two quickly began spending more and more time together and they were married by the end of their time at the academy as both of them by chance were in the same grade. They graduated together and requested assignment together. Falanner found herself with assignments were mostly filled with the usual stuff of filling out reports, along with maintenance and the like, she didn't get to spend a lot of time making things from nothing or trying new things either but she didn't seem to mind as she knew that would come later once she had proven herself. Falanner distinguished herself several times while being assigned to the Storm Center and the Break of Dawn and while she looked sent to remain on the Storm Center, she had been promised the assignment to the USS Thunderer when she came out of the yard but Falanner was handpicked by Admiral Alynna Nechayev to be the Chief Engineer of the USS Courageous when she emerged in mid 2391 as an almost brand new ship from the keel up. Surprised with her change of fortunes, she accepted the assignment and her now pregnant wife went with her. Several weeks later, Hae Min Lee gave birth to a daughter but she was forced to be left behind when the Courageous went off to war. The Courageous and her crew fought bravely across many engagements but it was the escort mission GR-1 that would seal Courageous's fate as the ship was destroyed here. Falannar survived and would go off to her next posting with her wife joining her. The two would be reunited while Rachael became pregnant with twins. That posting was the USS Tigers Claw. |
